Severe weather conditions in Apia forced the temporary closure of certain services at the international Matautu Port and Mulifanua Wharf on Tuesday.

Private yachts docked at the Marina in Matautu were also not spared with one of the boats nearly capsizing due to high waves but was towed away before further damages.

Meanwhile, the Samoa Ports Authority informed the general public of its temporary closure of the international port while other operations and services continued as usual on Tuesday.

The authority the weather condition had resulted in increasing waves and swells that affected the vessel traffic services.

At the Mulifanua wharf, the Samoa Shipping Corporation (SSC) also had to stop the interisland ferry for the day for safety reasons until further notice.

According to the Samoa Meteorology Office, the South Pacific convergence zone has intensified bringing heavy rain and strong winds across Samoa.

As a result, the heavy rain warning and flood advisory were issued on Tuesday afternoon alongside the previously valid wind advisory and marine warning.

The Meteorology office said these conditions are expected to persist maintaining wet and windy weather across the islands through Saturday.

The current state of the South Pacific convergence zone provides a favourable environment for the development of a tropical disturbance in the coming days.

Furthermore, the primary area of concern remains south of the islands where a low-level circulation may form and intensify.
