Good Samaritan pays New Delhi's school fees
A good Samaritan from New Zealand reached out to assist wheelchair-bound New Delhi Joseph Salatielu by agreeing to his school fees.
The principal of Vaimauga College Faumuina Tovio Taefu confirmed to the Samoa Observer that this woman had already sent $500 on Friday to pay for New Delhi's school fees for the whole school year.
He acknowledged this good Samaritan saying that this woman, a Samoan living in New Zealand doesn't want her identity to be revealed.
The principal said New Dehi’s unrelenting attempts to get into a high school while being in a wheelchair caught her attention.
Faumuina thanked the woman for her generosity in helping the student and acknowledged the newspaper for publishing articles about New Delhi.
New Delhi finished primary school at Loto Taumafai and his parents were told that he could continue education in any high school because he did not have any learning disabilities.
He took the entrance examination for Maluafou College and passed. However, on the first day of school, he claimed that he was spoken to harshly.
Maluafou College said their concern was that they did not have the infrastructure to support a student in a wheelchair and they did not know if the child needed a caretaker.
Last week, Vaimauga College accepted the student with assurance from the principal that he would be taken care of.
Faumuina in a recent interview said that Vaimauga College never rejected any student with a disability in the past and continues to do so like the case of New Delhi.
The school has facilities that are wheelchair friendly including a washroom.
Faumuina also highlighted that they value the Inclusive Education Policy and made sure that all students with disabilities are treated fairly and equally with all the other students in school.
