A prisoner serving life imprisonment for murder was given an extra four weeks of jail time after three marijuana cigarettes were found on him during an inspection.

Tony Eteuati pleaded guilty to possession of marijuana found in him at Tanumalala Prison on 18 January.

Justice Judge Justice Fepuleai Ameperosa Rosa was told by the defendant that he started his life sentence in 2016.

Eteuati appeared unrepresented and when asked about the new charge against him, he said it was true that he had three marijuana cigarettes on him when searched at Tanumalala Prison.

He admitted that the summary of facts presented in court was true. What was not revealed was how the prisoner managed to get the marijuana inside the prison.

Justice Roma sentenced him to four weeks in prison on Monday and will serve this on top of the life sentence he is currently serving.

Eteuati was sentenced to life imprisonment in 2016 after he admitted to killing his wife at Leauvaa.

The defendant admitted to bashing his wife with a rock while she was sleeping with her two children.

He had told the court then that he acted out of anger because his wife had left him. It is believed that the Etuati had a history of violence.
