The Papua New Guinea Association in Samoa gifted $13,000 to Vailele for hosting the nation during the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (C.H.O.G.M). The presentation was done on Saturday morning.

President of the Association, Pastor Morgan Gegere said during CHOGM, their Prime Minister pledged $20,000 Kina.

"This morning we came to give them the money. We look forward to doing other things that we can for the community. As you are very much aware Taumeasina is here and BSP is here. So those are what PNG has invested here in Samoa and we are going into the community to be part of it," he said.

"Vailele adopted us, so we look forward to not only such events but other small events where we can help the village. This would be an ongoing friendship between Vailele and PNG."

The village orator of Vailele, Tupuanai Falaniko thanked the PNG Association in Samoa and Prime Minister James Marape and delegates who came over for CHOGM. He believes the relationship they have built will continue for the years to come. The village council also plans on being part of PNG's jubilee celebration in PNG.

According to Pastor Morgan, their High Commissioner will be here in Samoa during their jubilee celebration to present his credentials to the Government of Samoa.

"This year we are celebrating 50 years of our nation's independence, so we will have a small gathering here in the village. I think we are establishing the relationship with the village and we hope that our gift will solidify that."
