Update: Chinese national holds ex-wife hostage at gunpoint, police negotiate release

The armed man who has barricaded himself in a shop in Siusega after shooting a police officer earlier in the day is allegedly holding a hostage.

Police are trying to negotiate the release of the hostage, however, the Chinese national has told the police that he will shoot the hostage, his ex-wife if he sees them entering the premises.

Police were alerted to the shop in Siusega around midday on Friday to followup a report of domestic violence. It is alleged the Chinese national had assaulted his ex-wife.

When the police showed up, the Chinese nation shot one of the officers in the shoulder. The police officer has been declared safe and is admitted to the hospital.

Police have cordoned off the area and have an armed unit on standby while they negotiate the safe release of the hostage and the surrender of the Chinese national.
