A 25-year-old man from Vaimoso was charged by the police for allegedly shooting a gun in the parking lot of the popular JP's Bar at Vaimea last week.

Police Commissioner Auapa'au Logoitino Filipo confirmed that the suspect was found last Saturday evening after they conducted a full day of search.

Auapa'au said the suspect was charged with armed with a dangerous weapon, unlawful discharge of a firearm and possession of an unregistered firearm.

The suspect is out on bail and was told to sign at the police headquarters in Apia every Friday. Auapa'au said the suspect will appear in the Supreme Court on 25 February for mention.

The Police Commissioner acknowledged the assistance from the members of the public especially those who were present during the night of the incident for making their search easier.

This disturbing incident went viral on social media with a video recorded by some bystanders last Friday night, which showed a group of young men entering a car as patrons headed to their vehicles.

In one of the videos, a woman's voice can be heard urging another person to get down as the alleged gunman wanders around.

People who were witnessing this incident were seen in the videos being nervous and confused. Many did not know if the gun had been fired at anyone or if they were shot in the air.

Auapaau said it was a concern that people still had possession of illegal firearms even after the extended gun amnesty. He said gun crimes had been on the rise and of concern was the incident where a police officer lost his life while trying to apprehend a murder suspect.
