Samoan-born New Zealand chef and television star Monica Galetti will be in the country at the end of the month as a tourism ambassador.

Galetti will be here from 26 January to 8 February.

Galetti’s love for cooking, inspired by her Samoan heritage, has led her to an outstanding career in the culinary world. After completing her Diploma in Hospitality at the Central Institute of Technology in New Zealand, she quickly made a name for herself by competing in top cooking competitions in Australia, the United States, and Europe.

Her big break came when she moved to London in the late 1990s to work at the prestigious Le Gavroche restaurant. She started as a junior chef and became the first woman to hold the role of sous chef at the renowned restaurant.

In 2005, she took on the role of head chef at Le Gavroche Tropiques in Mauritius, where she worked for 10 years. In 2017, she opened her restaurant in London, Mere, named after her mother, with her husband David Galetti.

Galetti is also widely known for her appearances on television. She is a judge on MasterChef: The Professionals and co-hosts the popular BBC2 show Amazing Hotels: Life Beyond the Lobby. In addition, she has written two cookbooks, Monica’s Kitchen and The Skills, showcasing her culinary talent.

The Samoa Tourism Authority is excited about Galetti’s visit, which is expected to bring international attention to Samoa as a tourist destination. CEO Toleafoa Pativaine Petaia-Tevita shared her thoughts on the importance of the visit.

“We are proud to welcome Monica Galetti back to Samoa. She is an inspiration to many, and her visit will help promote our country to audiences around the world. We look forward to the positive impact this will have on our tourism industry,” said STA chief executive officer Toleafoa Pativaine Petaia-Tevita.

Galetti’s return to her homeland is eagerly anticipated, as it highlights her remarkable journey and Samoa’s rich culture and beauty. It is expected to be an inspiring occasion for locals and an excellent opportunity to showcase Samoa to the world.
