Bad weather and power outages

A Toyota Hilux truck crashed into an electric pole in Moamoa early Saturday morning causing a power outage in the area while in other areas strong winds were attributed.

It is believed that the occupants of the vehicle escaped unscathed.

The Electric Power Corporation responded and will be replacing the old electric pole with a new one.

Residents at Moamoa are grateful for the efforts by EPC to restore the power to their homes on Saturday. There have been quite a lot of areas that experienced power outages during the heavy rain.

The EPC has done its best to keep Samoa informed on which areas will be affected by power outages and the times it will be affected through notices issued on its social media page.

EPC also explained that some of the unexpected power outages are caused by bad weather conditions, which causes trees and branches to fall on the high voltage lines.

EPC have also issued a notice asking members of the public to stay away from fallen power lines as they could be live and could end up causing serious injuries or even death. EPC said to call them in the case of such a situation.

The Land Transport Authority continues to provide updates on which routes are affected by fallen trees and roads not to take during these bad weather conditions. They also advise the public to prioritise their safety when travelling on the road. There are areas where drivers need to drive with caution due to landslides.

The Le Mafa pass is also experiencing heavy rainfall and poor visibility in some areas. The public is advised to be aware of fallen trees and to drive with caution when driving through the Le Mafa Pass.

There have also been reports of localised flooding in the town area.
