Nofoali’i faith leaders offer timely advice
The EFKS Chapel in Nofoali’i was the centre of faith and fellowship on the first Sunday of 2025 as it hosted the village’s annual New Year’s gathering.
This cherished event brought together the entire community, including church leaders, matai, families, and representatives from different churches across Nofoali’i.
The purpose of the gathering was to unite the village in prayer and reflection, starting the new year with renewed faith and a shared sense of purpose.
The highlight of the event was the inspiring messages delivered by several pastors.
Reverend Lokeni’s sermon resonated deeply with the congregation. He spoke about the importance of raising children with love, empathy, and understanding.
He cautioned parents against using harsh words and stressed that every word spoken in anger is a sin before God.
“It’s meaningless to go to church every day if you continue to speak negatively towards your children,” he said.
His message reminded the community that true faith begins at home, where children should feel nurtured and valued.
Reverend Kuresa Aumua continued the theme of love and unity in his message, calling on the people of Nofoali’i to walk into 2025 with hearts filled with love for one another.
He emphasised that without love, the journey through the new year would be pointless.
“We must treat each other as brothers and sisters in Christ. And approach every situation with a pure heart and an open mind,” he said.
His message encouraged the community to cultivate an atmosphere of kindness, understanding, and mutual respect.
In addition to the spiritual messages, speakers also addressed practical concerns regarding the leadership roles of matai in the village.
They highlighted the importance of leading by example, urging village leaders to set high moral standards for the people.
One speaker remarked, “It’s futile to tell others to stay away from harmful behaviour, such as drug use if the leaders themselves are involved in those very actions.”
This message underscored the need for integrity and accountability among those in positions of authority.
The event was not only a time for sermons and reflections but also a celebration of culture and togetherness.
Various church groups performed traditional dances, showcasing the village’s rich cultural heritage.
The performances were filled with joy and gratitude, as the community gave thanks for God’s blessings in the past year. The dances symbolised the unity of the different churches and families, all coming together in one faith and spirit.
As the event ended, the community took a moment to honour the memory of those who had passed away in previous years.
A solemn prayer was offered in remembrance of their lives, recognising their lasting influence on the village’s journey.
The gathering ended on a hopeful note, with everyone expressing gratitude for the opportunity to start another year together, strengthened by their shared faith and sense of community.
This annual event at the EFKS Chapel remains a cornerstone of life in Nofoali’i, bringing people together to reflect on their blessings, seek God’s guidance, and commit to supporting one another.
As Nofoali’i embarks on a new year, the village holds firm to the belief that by working together, loving one another, and keeping God at the centre, they can overcome any challenges and achieve a fruitful and prosperous 2025.
With hearts united and spirits uplifted, Nofoali’i looks forward to what lies ahead, confident that the foundation laid by this gathering will guide them throughout the year.
