The police headquarters in Tauese is currently on lockdown with the gates closed and heavy police presence surrounding the premises.

It's believed that the Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries Laauli Leuatea Schmidt is scheduled to arrive at 10 am today to face charges related to defamatory comments he made about two police inspectors involved in the investigation of a hit-and-run case that tragically claimed the life of a university student in 2021.

On Thursday evening, Laauli made a public announcement via his official Facebook page, addressing the charges and urging his supporters to remain calm as the legal proceedings unfold.

While police operations continue at the station, a crowd of ruling party supporters, dressed in red and black, has gathered across the street, awaiting Laauli's arrival.

This is a developing story, and we will continue to bring you updates. Stay tuned.
