Leulumoega hospital closes temporarily
The Ministry of Health has announced the temporary closure of the Leulumoega District Hospital to facilitate crucial infrastructural improvements.
This decision, detailed in a notice signed by the Director General of Health, Aiono Dr. Alec Ekeroma, outlines plans to enhance the hospital’s facilities to better serve the community.
During the renovation period, effective from 6 January 2025, all operations of the Leulumoega District Hospital will be relocated to the Faleolo District Hospital.
“During this period, the public is kindly advised to access healthcare services at Faleolo District Hospital as the ministry undertakes renovation work to improve facilities at Leulumoega District Hospital,” the notice stated.
This measure aims to ensure the continuation of healthcare services for residents of Aana and surrounding areas while upgrades are being made at Leulumoega. The Ministry has assured the public that every effort is being made to minimize disruptions to healthcare access.
In a related announcement, the Ministry of Health has also implemented temporary adjustments to the operating hours of check-ups at the main hospital in preparation for the Christmas and New Year holidays. From 16 December 2024 to 5 January 2025, routine check-ups will be available only between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. Outside these hours, patients will be directed to the Accident and Emergency Department, with priority given to those presenting with serious or urgent conditions.
This change is part of a broader effort to manage workloads and staff availability during the holiday season by instituting 12-hour shifts. The Ministry has encouraged the public to plan their visits accordingly and to utilise emergency services only for critical health concerns.
