One down and a few more to go for 19-year-old Terry Pea. On Wednesday he graduated with a Certificate II in Tourism and Hospitality but his eyes are set on fulfilling his mother's dreams.

The young man from Savaia Lefaga and Matautu Falealili eventually wants to become a teacher.

“I achieved what I had always dreamed of. Getting to where I am now has not been an easy journey. I have had to run over some rough roads," he said.

“I was in class five at Savaia Primary School when I struggled with reading and writing.

"My mother, Sara Fui, constantly encouraged me to keep trying. Nothing is easy, but if you keep trying, you will eventually succeed."

He encountered several challenges, but it didn't deter him from working even harder to achieve his goals.

"This is for you, Mum. After all the sleepless nights and a lot of effort, it has finally paid off, and I am incredibly grateful to our Lord for giving me the best mother anyone could wish for," he said.

“Not to mention my sisters and family, who have supported me throughout my academic career. This is not the end; there will be much more next year.

“I didn't think I would make it today because I usually feel like giving up and quitting school, but with all the support and encouragement from my loved ones and our Father Clay Tofilau, I feel honoured and safe knowing that I have my family by my side."

Terry is eager to take advantage of more possibilities in the future.

“In addition to repaying my family for their love and support, I aim to be able to make them proud. If you ever encounter challenges, never give up or back down. Pray to God for assistance since He makes it possible.”
