Water projects benefit Savaii villages
The opening of four major water supply projects on the island of Savaii last Friday was a blessing to villagers who now have access to water.
Manase Village encountered ongoing water disruptions over the years.
Minister of Works Transport and Infrastructure Olo Fiti Vaai formally opened the $233,401 project funded by the government through a partnership with the European Union.
The installation of 3.6 kilometres of water pipes made it possible to supply water to families in the village sourced from water tanks at Safotu.
Manase is one of the villages in Savaii under the Independent Water Scheme however, Olo said a proposal was made to the Samoa Water Authority (S.W.A.) that resulted in the latest partnership.
He urged the member of parliament and the village to consider the health of the villagers and access clean and purified water for consumption.
Another major water project was opened in the village of Aopo worth $250,000 that commenced in July and finished in August.
The work included the installation of 1.6 kilometres of water pipes in the village and the construction of two water tanks to store 10,000 litres of water.
The Minister of Works said Vision Engineering Consultant was awarded the contract for connecting the water tanks that utilise solar power.
In Papa Sataua their water project of $255,000 saw the construction of two water tanks (10,000 litres each) and installation of water pipes about 2km long.
