For Imoasina Taualofai, being honoured as the 2024 Dux of Don Bosco Technical College meant much more than a prestigious award. It was a testament to her perseverance and resilience, especially in the wake of her mother's passing in 2023.

“I feel excited and a bit sad because my mum is not here to celebrate with me,” Taualofai shared, her voice shaking as she fought back tears. Yet, amid the waves of emotion, a deep sense of gratitude overflowed within her.

“But I feel grateful to my school and all my classmates who have been there for me during this difficult time,” she said. She dedicated her achievements to her parents and family acknowledging their enduring influence in her life.

“They were the ones who supported me all the time, even at my lowest,” said Taualofai.

Taualofai's proud grandmother, Katerina Yandall Ulugia, expressed her feelings about the significance of such honours. "We thank God for the blessings," said Ulugia.

After losing her mother, Ulugia mentioned that she felt sorry for her granddaughter but also expected her to receive the award. "Yes, I expected it, and I am very happy for her," Ulugia added.

As a farewell message to her wider cohort, Taualofai wished her classmates all the best for their future. “I want to congratulate the Class of 2024 on their achievements,” she said, encouraging current students to recognise the value in every learning environment.

"I also want to acknowledge the students who are going to be signing up for this college next year.

“Every school, no matter the circumstances, can be a great place to share knowledge and skills.”

One standout memory from this year for Taualofai was a significant event that brought students together.

“My favourite highlight was having our final moment as a class last week,” she recalled, referring to a six-hour mass that united the Level 3 students in a shared farewell.
