Local business surprises Cancer Society
A local business continued its ongoing commitment to fighting cancer with more financial help to support the cause of the Samoa Cancer Society.
SSAB donated $3,000 to the Samoa Cancer Society. This donation includes $2,000 raised by the Stock Control and Delivery team of SSAB, along with an additional $1,000 from the sale of pink seis at SSAB stores throughout the month of October.
The Chief Executive Officer of the Samoa Cancer Society Dr Malama Tafunai expressed her gratitude upon receiving this unexpected donation.
SSAB had earlier contributed $20,000 in partnership with the Samoa International Finance Authority during SSAB Gala Night in August.
"I am pleasantly surprised to receive this additional donation this morning. Thank you so much for the continuous support for the Samoa Cancer Society," said Dr Malama.
Afioga Tofilau Fiti Leung Wai, CEO of SSAB, emphasised that this act of generosity aligned with the company's theme for November.
"SSAB’s theme this month is Acts of Kindness, and we continue our commitment to supporting our people through our partnership with the Samoa Cancer Society," she said.
Tofilau expressed her gratitude to the SCS for sowing seeds of hope and love, particularly in difficult times, emphasising that these donations stem from her faith in the Lord.
"I would also like to acknowledge my Stock Control and Delivery department. Their manager, Filemu Samoa, assistant manager Aoge Moto, and their entire team for their good hearts to help the community through Samoa Cancer Society and dedication to continuing their ribbon initiative since 2021," stated Tofilau.
Dr. Malama further explained that the contribution from SSAB will be used to update educational brochures and flyers on cancer awareness and prevention.
"I always inquire about the number of attendees at any event I am invited to speak at, and I ensure to bring 40 brochures and flyers with me. These materials are crucial for educating our community about cancer,” she added.
SSAB said it remained dedicated to making a positive impact in the community and looks forward to continuing its support for the Samoa Cancer Society in the future.
