Decorations to stay until Christmas
The decorations put up by villages for the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (C.H.O.G.M) in October will stay on until the festive season.
According to Mulifanua village mayor Ifopo Matia Jahnke there is no need to do anything else to the decorations especially since Samoa is nearing Christmas.
"Our village worked so hard day and night to ensure that our village looks beautiful when our guests arrive. So why take it down? Our untitled men worked tirelessly with the help of our women's committee and all that lent a hand in making all of this possible. So it will be a waste to remove any decorations or anything for that matter," he said.
A member of the village of Lepea said some of their decorations are permanent for instance the tyres used for their plants on the side of the road. This means that there may be some changes to the decorations for the upcoming Christmas season.
Decorations and flags of the Commonwealth countries are still flying in front of the villages that were assigned to host the countries. There haven't been any changes to the decorations since CHOGM ended.
The village of Savaia Lefaga will not be taking down the flags of St. Vincent. The village council will be doing inspections every now and then to ensure that their village will remain as clean and as beautiful as during CHOGM.
Most villages hope to keep their decorations up and continue with their clean-ups.
