In a spirited display of community engagement and environmental stewardship, staff from Samoa Airways participated in a city-wide clean-up campaign on Saturday morning.

This aligns with Samoa’s preparations for the upcoming Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) 2024.

This initiative follows a recent Cabinet decision encouraging all government ministries and agencies to collaborate in making Samoa a clean and inviting destination for visiting delegations from Commonwealth nations.

Early risers from Samoa Airways rolled up their sleeves to sweep streets, collect litter, and beautify the area stretching from McDonald’s Restaurant to Tuutuuleloloto Hall.

This clean-up is part of a broader effort led by the Government of Samoa aimed at ensuring the capital city is pristine and presentable for this prestigious event. The initiative reflects Samoa’s commitment to hospitality and its pride in the natural beauty of its environment as it prepares to host international dignitaries.

This year’s CHOGM is particularly momentous, marking Samoa as the first Pacific Island nation and the smallest state in the Commonwealth to host the gathering.

In anticipation of this historic occasion, ministries, agencies, and various community groups have joined forces under the ‘Beautiful Samoa’ campaign, cleaning various parts of the city and its surroundings to showcase Samoa’s readiness to welcome heads of state, dignitaries, and global media.

“The Samoa Airways family is proud to play our part in this national initiative,” stated Fauo’o Taua Fatu Tielu, Chief Executive Officer of Samoa Airways.

“We understand the importance of making a good impression and showing the world that Samoa is ready to host such a significant event.

"As Samoa’s national airline, we are honoured to contribute to the success of C.H.O.G.M. 2024, and we look forward to welcoming our guests from across the Commonwealth.”

Scheduled for October 21-25, the C.H.O.G.M. will convene leaders and representatives from over 50 member countries, providing an opportunity for Samoa to highlight its rich culture, leadership, and dedication to global collaboration.

With the commitment of Samoa Airways and other government bodies, the streets of Apia and its surroundings are set to reflect the warm, welcoming spirit of Samoa, ensuring that the nation shines brightly on this historic stage.
