The bus shelters at the Savalalo Bus Terminal are up and have a new design. Commuters and vendors have applauded the government for their fast action.

A few shelters remain unfinished and are being worked upon by the construction company hired. The bus shelters fell in July due to strong winds and one section was damaged by a bus.

A bus commuter Siaosi Saili said building new bus shelters for people was a good idea. He said with CHOGM approaching, it was crucial to have the important infrastructure ready.

He hoped the new structures were stronger than the previous ones.

"I think our nation will be more beautiful. Now my other hope is that our people would be able to keep Samoa clean," he remarked.

“There is a need for more resilient structures. I hope the new bus shelters can stand the test of the elements. There is aIso a need for regular maintenance.

“It is our responsibility to properly care for and maintain the assets of our nation. I have witnessed some other individuals who lack maturity will destroy our assets.

“A cleaner environment and better people are the foundations of a better Samoa. Samoa is a land of people, but it's also a land of beauty, love, and support.

“I'm hoping that the construction of these additional shelters will encourage our nation and its citizens to work more at keeping Samoa clean before CHOGM.”

According to another computer, Papa Va'a, Samoa consistently receives benefits and all such things need to be looked after.

"I encourage our nation to take good care of its properties. Cleaning, removing plastics, and using trash cans to dispose of waste are the only things that keep our nation lovely,” he said.

The Savalalo Bus Terminal is the busiest place in the township of Apia with thousands of foot traffic daily. LTA is yet to comment on the cost of the construction.
