Saleimoa has spent close to $40,000 and will spend more to beautify their village for the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in October.

The village is excited to host Cyprus, an island located in the Mediterranean Sea, off the coast of Lebanon and Syria.

Saleimoa women's committee member Fuamauga Faumuina said their preparations depended on funds.

They have used money from their pockets for the decorations. The women's committee bought the tyres used to decorate the side of the road.

"We are trying to the best of our abilities to give our village a good name as well. As you can see, we have brought this to make our preparations more beautiful. All these preparations are done by money. Funds used ours there is no help from the Government, in terms of preparations," she said.

"We have spent probably $40,000 and still counting. You see those tyres, we got it for $3,000, then we have these poles for our flags which cost us $35,000. We have not included the prices for paint and other things left in our preparations.

"We have also renovated the rubbish stands. So there is a lot of money going into this."

Despite the $3,000 already spent on tyres, they will be buying more to decorate the opposite side of their village as well.

"The tyres are expensive. Everything you see, from the cement, bricks, tyres, poles, colours, and many others is bought with money. At the moment, we haven't got any confirmation from the Government whether the participants of Cyprus will visit our village but we will continue to prepare for anything.

"Our main focus is to beautify our village for the upcoming big event. For the tyres alone, it was bought by our women's committee but for the other parts of our decoration, our project money has contributed to this as well. But honestly, it isn't enough but we are still doing everything we can with whatever that we have."
