Federal Pacific Group (Fedpac) has generously contributed $20,000 to the Vaiala Ulalei Rugby Club as a tribute to Samoa's illustrious rugby heritage. 

This significant donation is part of the celebrations marking the 100-year anniversary of Samoa Rugby, underscoring Fedpac’s commitment to preserving and enhancing the sport that has profoundly shaped both local and global rugby landscapes.

Papalii Namulauulu Leota Sami Leota, Fedpac’s spokesperson and President of Lakapi Samoa, expressed the significance of the donation. 

“Our support is a tribute to the pioneers who introduced rugby to Samoa—a sport that has proudly represented our nation worldwide,” he remarked. 

Papali'i emphasised that the donation honours the enduring legacy of rugby warriors who have become national heroes, including many Vaiala Ulalei alumni who have donned the Manu Samoa jersey.

The Vaiala Ulalei Rugby Club holds a special place in Samoan rugby history. 

Alongside Apia Rugby Club and the Hospital Rugby Club, it was instrumental in establishing Samoa’s first national rugby team. 

“Rugby has transformed lives, uplifted communities, and inspired generations,” Papali'i added, reflecting on the sport’s profound impact on Samoan society.

Fedpac’s contribution also serves as a tribute to Afioga Papalii Dr Semisi Maiai, a stalwart of the Hospital Rugby team from 1953 to 1955 and an early supporter of Fedpac. 

Papali'i paid homage to him noting, “May he rest in peace and love.”

This donation is part of Fedpac’s broader initiative to advance rugby across Samoa, including rural areas. 

Their support for the Mataniufeagaimaleata International 7s Tournament, which fosters talent and leadership among young athletes in rural communities, exemplifies their dedication to using sport as a means of empowerment and community strengthening.
