It was an eye-opening experience for most college students as they attended the National University of Samoa Open Day on Friday morning deciding on what career pathway they will be taking next.

It was exciting as some still had no idea about the various courses they could be doing after finishing college.

According to students, there were a lot of courses offered at N.U.S that were not being offered in colleges.

Lina Grace Toeaso from Vavau, the 18-year-old head girl for Lepa and Lotofaga College said the Open Day was important. She said she now has a clear vision of where she needs to go and the courses she needs to take to reach her dreams.

"Today was really great. I have learnt so much from this. I aspired to be a lawyer in the future and this has helped me to know which subjects to take," she said.

"The pathway is a bit difficult but with God anything is possible. We know that not everything comes easy so I am willing to take up the challenge."

Chanel College student Simon Iiga is in his graduating year. He was inspired by the programs being taught in the Faculty of Technical Education, especially in the area of electrical engineering.

"I have watched the boys here who are in the electrical engineering course and I am challenged to take it. At the moment, I still haven't decided on which pathway I will be taking, but being an electrician is definitely at the top of my list," he said.

"Seeing how important it is for me to know the wiring of those electrical wires in our house, gives hope that maybe this is my calling. So hopefully, one day I can do it and become an electrician to help my family in that area."

Hundreds of students gathered at the NUS gymnasium for the Open Day. The Miss Samoa contestants were also present. There were cultural performances by different faculties. Booths were set up for students to learn and see what each faculty has to offer.
