The Ikale Tahi know it will be a fierce encounter as they face Samoa in the second round of the Pacific Nations Cup. Both teams have been pushed into a must-win situation.

Tevita Tu’ifua, the head coach of the Ikale Tahi Tongan team, expressed full respect for the Samoan team and acknowledged the magnitude of the rivalry. The Tongan team, having arrived on Sunday, has adapted well to the training conditions in Samoa, noting the similarities to the conditions in Tonga.

"It's going to be a good game - whatever conditions - it's always a good game against Samoa," said Tu'ifua.

He also acknowledged the 100 years of rugby in Samoa and how "it is a big occasion for Samoa,"

Tu’ifua also noted the significance of the match in fostering a new team culture and the pivotal role of their captain, Ben Tameifuna, in leading the team on the field.

"The type of person he is and the commitment he shows, not only for the players but for the country itself," said Tu'ifua.

He also acknowledged the challenges ahead, including injuries, while stressing the opportunity for new players to showcase their abilities.

Ben Tameifuna, captain of the Ikale Tahi Tongan team highlighted the physical nature of the upcoming game and the enthusiasm of new players participating.

"We've got some new boys who are very excited to put their hand up for Tonga. Obviously, the heat is going to be another factor as well, but it's always good to come to Samoa and play against the Samoan brothers here," said Tameifuna.

When asked what it meant to captain the national team of Tonga Tamefiuna replied:

"If you asked me this question five years ago, I never could have an answer. It's a privilege and an honour,"

"I take it as it comes. I can only put my best foot forward to lead the boys. I'm not much of a speaker to lead, so I try and lead with my actions," added Tameifuna.
