Miss Samoa Victoria, Chantelle Tautunuafatasi is a true believer that having compassion for humanity is vital.

The 25-year-old who proudly represents the villages of Sapapali'i and Saleaula in Savai'i, is stepping into this year's pageant using her platform to address some of the most pressing issues facing humanity today.

In a recent interview with the Samoa Observer, Ms. Tautunuafatasi who is of both Samoan and Australian heritage, spoke passionately about her mission to raise awareness and advocate for change.

Ms. Tautunuafatasi, born and raised in Australia, carries the values and cultural heritage of her Samoan upbringing deeply within her.

She describes her entry into the Miss Samoa pageant as a fulfilment of a long-held dream and a commitment to her family's encouragement and support.

"I have always believed in the importance of staying true to your calling and purpose," Tautunuafatasi remarked. "It's crucial to remember what you stand for and to have a firm foundation in your beliefs. Every calling is from God, and trusting in His timing and the paths He leads us to is essential. I truly believe that if you have faith, nothing will ever get to you."

She is dedicated to using her platform to advocate for compassion and speak out against violence and abuse.

She emphasises the urgency of addressing domestic violence and the broader spectrum of violence affecting women, children, and communities worldwide.

"There's so much happening around the world, including the genocide in Palestine and other forms of hate and abuse. We need to support and show compassion for humanity," she asserts. "I want to be the voice for those who cannot speak for themselves."

Her advocacy also extends to environmental issues. Ms. Tautunuafatasi is concerned about the harmful impacts of pollution, overfishing, and waste on our oceans.

"The small things matter," she stresses. "Even though we might not see the effects immediately, failing to address these issues now will negatively impact future generations. We must act now to ensure a better world for those who come after us."

In addition to her environmental advocacy, Tautunuafatasi is committed to addressing the issue of online abuse.

She understands the profound mental health effects of cyberbullying and its potential to drive individuals to despair.

"That's why compassion and kindness are so important," she says. "You never know what someone is going through, so we need to be kind and share love."

Ms. Tautunuafatasi draws immense inspiration from her mother, a strong, God-fearing Samoan woman who has sacrificed greatly for her family.

"My mother has instilled in me the gifts of love, service, and compassion," she reflects. "These qualities are vital not only as a young Tama'ita'i Samoa but also as a person."

As she prepares for this year's pageant, Ms. Tautunuafatasi is eager to learn from fellow contestants and deepen her understanding of her culture.

"I'm excited to represent my family and make them proud," she says. "The lineup for this year's pageant is incredible, and I am confident that it will be a remarkable event for Samoa."

Ms. Tautunuafatasi's participation in the Miss Samoa pageant is more than just a personal milestone; it is a powerful statement of her commitment to making a difference.
