The driver of a truck that crashed into a family's home at Vaipua in Savaii has been hospitalised following the incident on Wednesday afternoon.

Police Commissioner, Auapaau Logoitino Filipo confirmed the driver remains in hospital and no charges have been laid.

The truck crashed into one of the buildings in the Vaipua family’s residence. Auapaau said no one was inside the house at the time of the incident.

It is not yet known what led to the crash but videos circulated on social media show villagers surrounding the site.

Meanwhile, in Apia, the search for the family of an unconscious man who was taken to the National Hospital at Moto’otua this week has been successful.

The Ministry of Health (M.O.H.) confirmed on Thursday afternoon the unknown and comatose patient has been identified by his family.

According to M.O.H. the man was brought in by police earlier this week and was in a critical condition.

His identity was not known and prompted a call to the public to assist in identifying the man and in search for his family.

He was reported to be between 50 to 55 years old with black hair, a beard, and brown eyes and identified to have an armband tattoo on his left hand.

The Ministry did not post his photo online for privacy reasons but appealed for public help.
