Vaitele-Tai gears up for CHOGM
The village of Vaitele-Tai has started preparations for the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in October and villagers have been busy with beautification projects.
Vaitele-Tai has been given the opportunity to host Kenya.
On Wednesday, Samoa Observer caught up with some chiefs and untitled men who were painting pot plants made of cement in front of the Magic Circus of Samoa tent.
"Yes, we have started preparation for the big meeting. We are just painting these so that we can plant in it to beautify this area as it is closer to the road," said Lepou Valo'aga.
"We will be hosting Kenya, we plan to put a welcome sign at the beginning of our village and a farewell sign between our village and Vaigaga,"
"We are really excited and looking forward to hosting the Kenyans. Our preparations are far from done. There's more to be done for this event. We want to be number one for this event so we are doing our very best to be just that."
Some villages have started their CHOGM preparation. A lot of effort has been put into making signs and different beautification projects.
Delegates from 56 countries will be in Samoa for the CHOGM starting 21 October. There will be an estimated 6000 people including high level dignitaries, government officials, journalists, civil society organisations and law enforcement officers.
There will be 15 different meeting venues, a cruise ship will be berthed in Apia Harbour to provide accommodation and the Head of the Commonwealth, the British monarch King Charles III and Queen Camilla are expected to be in Samoa for the CHOGM.
