Digicel boss to step down

The Chief Executive Officer for Digicel Samoa, Anthony Seuseu is set to conclude his tenure in three months.

The telecommunication giant has embarked on an extensive search to find a successor who will take the reins following Seuseu’s departure. 

This development was first brought to light by this newspaper late last week, prompting an effort to secure official confirmation.

When approached earlier this week, Seuseu refrained from commenting on his impending departure. He indicated that he was still in office and directed inquiries to the company’s legal team for further details. Additionally, Seuseu did not elaborate on his three-month notice period.

On Wednesday, Digicel Samoa publicly announced Seuseu’s upcoming exit. 

The company’s statement highlighted that, after a distinguished five-year tenure with Digicel Pacific which included leadership roles in Digicel Tonga and Digicel Samoa. Seuseu will be returning to New Zealand with his family.

Throughout his tenure with Digicel Pacific, Seuseu's leadership has been marked by notable achievements. 

As C.E.O. of Digicel Tonga, he adeptly guided the company through a series of unprecedented challenges. These included the global COVID-19 pandemic, the catastrophic volcanic eruption and tsunami of 2022, and the complex Telstra acquisition. 

His strategic acumen and steadfast leadership played a crucial role in the company's recovery and subsequent growth during these trying times.

Seuseu assumed the role of CEO at Digicel Samoa in April 2023. 

His leadership has been instrumental in several key milestones, including the successful introduction of Samoa’s first 5G services. 

Reflecting on his tenure, Seuseu shared, "Working at Digicel Pacific has been the most rewarding experience of my professional career. I wanted to give back to my Pacific people on a professional level, and I feel I have achieved that in my five years here. Digicel Pacific makes a difference in the communities they operate in.”

Despite his departure, Seuseu has pledged to continue supporting the Digicel Samoa team remotely until a new CEO is appointed.

Shally Jannif, C.E.O. of Digicel Pacific Regional HUB Markets, expressed gratitude for Seuseu’s contributions, stating, “We would like to express our sincere gratitude to Anthony for his outstanding leadership and dedication. His contributions to the company and the Pacific region have been invaluable. We wish him all the best in his future endeavours.”

The search for a new CEO to lead Digicel Samoa has officially begun, as the company seeks to find a successor who will build upon the solid foundation established during Seuseu’s tenure.
