'We are family": M.B.O.P.A centennial celebrations end
Hundreds of old and current pupils of Marist Brothers Primary School and Saint Joseph's College gathered at Lepea Catholic church on Sunday for the closing mass to end their centennial celebrations.
The mass was officiated by Father Mikaele Tuimavave, who is also an old pupil of Marist. It was an eventful week and full of excitement for all members of the Marist Brothers Old Pupil's Association (M.B.O.P.A). The celebration started with God and they ended with God.
A toana'i was done after mass where every member gathered at the Saint Joseph's College Hall, Alafua.
Fr Mikaele during his sermon stressed the importance of the Marist Spirit and he hoped that the current and future Marist students will continue to live that legacy.
"The most important thing that we (Marist) should keep in our hearts is "We are a Family". We should live by our values and keep our spirit live," he said.
"Be humble. When you see your brother/sister falling pick them up and help them. We should always support our school in the spirit of Marist."
On Saturday night, Marist had their Centennial Corporate dinner where they awarded old pupils of Marist which included the Chairman of the Faatuatua i le Atua Samoa ua Tasi party, Laauli Polataivao Schmidt and Opposition Leader Tuilaepa Sailele Malielegaoi.
President Aumua Ming Leung Wai elaborated on what it means to live the Marist Spirit.
"There are many aspects to the Marist Spirit, but some include the spirit of excellence, humility and service, and of course forgiveness and reconcilliation that is part of the Marist spirit. Here at Marist, we have our meetings every Wednesday night and every Marist old scholar is welcome to attend," he said.
"What is not allowed to be discussed when you come to Marist is politics. We witnessed tonight an amazing moment when Honourable Laauli embraced Honourable Tuilaepa. That is part of the Marist spirit."
The celebrations were attended by ex-scholars here and abroad.
