The Methodist church’s theological college in Piula joined thousands of church members on Friday night to celebrate its 60th anniversary of the annual conference (Koneferenisi).

Held at Faleula, the church’s headquarters, Piula Theological College captivated the crowd, honouring the church's six-decade journey.

After weeks of preparation, the theological college finally exhibited its talents through cultural dances, gospel singing, traditional songs, and more.

Reverend Professor Mosese Mailo, the Principal of the College, led the performance.

Through their performances, theological students reflected on the church's achievements over the past decade since celebrating the 50th anniversary of Koneferenisi.

They also highlighted the challenges overcome by the church and the significant support provided by the church and conference to the theological college.

Challenges noted by theological students in their performances included the measles epidemic, COVID-19's international border closures and nationwide lockdowns, and the constitutional crisis after the 2021 General Elections, among others.

They acknowledged the church’s leadership for their resilience and foresight in ensuring the church's progress amidst challenges.

One key message from the theological college’s performance focused on the significance of embers from a fire.

They emphasised that embers, often seen as remnants of a dying fire, symbolise strength, determination, and a bright, enduring spirit.

They portrayed embers as a symbol that the fire continues to burn, even after the flames have subsided.

Throughout last week, thousands of Methodist youth from Samoa and abroad gathered at Faleula for various sports activities in celebration of the annual conference's 60th anniversary.

The sports concluded on Saturday afternoon, with the main conference for women and the church scheduled for the upcoming week.
