Telecommunication company Vodafone Samoa has returned to aid Lakapi Samoa with a new sponsorship deal, a little over a month after severing ties.

In a statement, Vodafone Samoa said they continue to support Lakapi Samoa, a fact they relate to one of its core values and roles in keeping the development and progress of rugby in Samoa.

The recent decision by Vodafone Samoa to temporarily stop sponsoring rugby was made after a thorough analysis of the company's sponsorship portfolio and the conditions of the market at the time.

"This decision will continue to promote sportsmanship, and nurturing talent at the grassroots level in Samoa. We look forward to collaborating closely Lakapi Samoa to achieve shared goals and create memorable results in the long term," said Vodafone Samoa Chief Executive Officer Rana Bose.

“In the world of sports sponsorship, decisions are often driven by strategic considerations, financial assessments, and the overarching goal of supporting communities and fostering growth. Our recent decision to temporarily withdraw from sponsoring rugby was not taken lightly but was rooted in a comprehensive review of our sponsorship portfolio and market dynamics at the time.

On the other hand, we had positive conversations with enthusiasts, internal teams, and the rugby community. During a difficult moment for the sport, this time allowed us to reevaluate our goals, consider user input, and comprehend the wider effects of our sponsorship on the growth of rugby and its players.

“What emerged from these discussions was a reaffirmation of our commitment to rugby and its values. Rugby, with its rich heritage of camaraderie, resilience, and inclusivity, aligns closely with our own corporate ethos. We recognize its power to unite communities, inspire the nation, and promote talents.

"We look forward to deepening our partnerships, exploring new avenues for collaboration, and championing the sport's evolution together. As we embark on this next chapter, we are grateful for the continued support of our partners, stakeholders, and the entire rugby family."

Vincent Fepuleai, CEO of Lakapi Samoa mentioned "Lakapi Samoa is excited to re-sign with Vodafone and we are looking forward to the strengthening of this partnership and the benefit it has to the growth of Rugby in Samoa for the future."

Vodafone Samoa along with Lakapi Samoa looks forward to build on the legacy of excellence, sportsmanship, and passion that defines rugby.

The particulars and the monetary value of the deal has not been made public.
