Tuiloma Ollie Crichton, a Samoan rugby legend from Apia and a humble, prominent former Manu Samoa player will be laid to rest on Thursday.

Tuiloma was described as a man with many passions, notably his family, rugby, serving in the community, his grandchildren, and dedicating time to the church fulfilling obligations as a bishop.

He made his international debut in the 80s and was part of the 1991 Manu Samoa team.

He was a man of exemplary character and integrity, who endured every struggle whilst quietly and unassumingly impacting the lives of many others.

Gus Critchon, his eldest son, told Samoa Observer on Wednesday that his late father was a man of many great qualities who was particularly enthusiastic about rugby.

“Although he was more involved in the wider community, our father had a rewarding existence and laid the foundation for us and our children to have a bright and secure future.

Tuiloma grew up in Malifa, Apia and he’s the second eldest to nine children of the late pioneer of the Manu Samoa Ollie senior Richard Critchon and mother May Critchon.

He passed away at the age of 65 at the National Kidney Foundatio in Motootua while undergoing dialysis on Wednesday 12 June 2024.

Tuiloma didn't grow up with high hopes, didn't pursue higher education, and only went as far as high school.

He studied at Malifa Primary and Samoa College, where he earned his high school graduation.

In addition, he served as captain of Kionasina Fautasi. He is a well-known player for the Apia Maroons Club.

“He was admired by individuals from his generation, our generation, and this generation as well. He is a man of integrity and spirituality," said his son.

“My father had made a significant impression on many lives with his extraordinary abilities and humanity."

With regards to his professional life, he worked as an accountant at Asco Motors for his entire working life until he retired. He is survived by his spouse, Sharon Siulia Crichton, and their five children, Gus, Richard, Leroy, May, and Maryann Crichton.

Furthermore, apart from being a prominent member of the community and captain of the Avi'ivi'i Fautasi from Toamua, he was dedicated to his work from Monday through Saturday.

The church service will be held at the Church of the Latter Day Saints of Jesus Christ at 9 am and he will be buried at Tufuiopa Cemetary.
