Local bank, Samoa Commercial Bank (SCB) has introduced a payment initiative called the MySCB Wallet which will allow more people to do things without carrying much cash.

A statement from the bank said that introducing this new payment system is significant for SCB as it is the first of its kind in Samoa.

“It also demonstrates the bank’s continued commitment to modernise and develop its electronic banking services through technological opportunities available,” said SCB management in a statement.

“MySCB wallet is simply, your wallet in your phone. The technology allows customers to use their mobile devices to scan and pay instead of paying by cash when shopping for groceries, buying medicine at a pharmacy, eat at a restaurant, pay for transport/deliveries, utility bills and other fees.

“Customers can also process a payment transfer to any account in the bank. MySCB wallet offers customers a seamless purchasing or scanning experience because payments are linked directly to their account in the bank.

“Our way of life is constantly changing. Therefore, it is important for financial service providers to leverage opportunities to expand financial inclusion & build infrastructure where people can better access their money and transact safely.”

The bank said that financial institutions in other countries have taken the lead in promoting cashless transactions due to challenges that impacts individuals and businesses. MySCB wallet promotes cashless payments and minimises risk of carrying or holding cash.

It is not only very secure but a faster payment method that is cost effective and does not require expensive hardware.

The Samoa Water Authority according to the release confirmed their support in promoting MySCB wallet as a digital payment option.

“SCB is delighted about this partnership because customers can scan and pay their water bill using this new technology,” said the management.

“As part of this collaboration, the bank will include processing of water payments from its branch network, especially the rural areas. Some businesses that have linked directly to MySCB Wallet includes, Nourish Café, Maria’s Healthcare Pharmacy, Liquor Planet, Toleafoa Petrol Station Fugalei, APlus Services and Sekieats.  Other utility service providers and businesses are invited to join and register as well.

“SCB takes this opportunity to thank its customers for their confidence in the bank and their continued support over the years.  Your financial journey is important to the bank and we will continue to deliver premier customer experience through a wide range of financial products and services so scb remains your best choice for banking.”
