Sir Tom Marsters, the Cook Island King's Representative and his wife Lady Tuaine, have arrived in Samoa as special guests for Avele College's 100th Anniversary celebrations.

Sir Tom, a distinguished former Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign Minister, and Deputy Leader of the Cook Islands Party, has deep ties to the institution as a former student of Avele Agriculture College.

The King's Representative is the same as the Head of State or Governor General.

The invitation to participate in the week-long festivities was extended by the Avele College Old Pupil Association (A.C.O.P.A.), reflecting Sir Tom's enduring connection to his alma mater.

The celebrations began unofficially on Saturday with a friendly golf tournament, setting a festive tone for the upcoming official events.

The formal commencement of the anniversary programs is scheduled for Tuesday, 11 June, with an opening ceremony at the school compound. This will be followed by a vibrant parade on Wednesday morning, starting from the Fire and Emergency Services (F.E.S.A.) compound and proceeding to the government building.

Prime Minister Fiame Naomi Mata'afa is slated to deliver the keynote address on Wednesday, a highlight of the day's events, which also include the dedication of the new Fale Samoa for Avele College.

These ceremonies mark significant milestones in the college’s history and honor its contributions to education in Samoa.

Avele College, established in 1923 by 24 founders including its first Head Boy, Anapu Solofa, officially opened its doors in June 1924. Originally an agriculture school for boys, the institution began admitting female students in 1996, evolving into a comprehensive educational establishment.

The week-long celebration will feature a variety of activities designed to honor the college’s legacy, celebrate its achievements, and envision its future. The presence of Sir Tom John Marsters underscores the lasting impact of Avele College on its alumni and highlights the global connections fostered by this historic institution.
