Campus of Hope gets a clinic
The children survivors of abuse and violence will not have to go to a hospital in the future as a medical clinic and counseling centre are being built within the Campus of Hope.
areThis has been made possible by the Humanitarian Experience Group, a non-profit organization of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints from Salt Lake City, Utah.
As the country celebrated its 62nd Independence earlier this week, the Samoa Victim Support Group held a groundbreaking ceremony for the additional building.
The building will enable abused children and women from the Campus to receive medical checkups and counseling services within the safety of their community.
The groundbreaking ceremony for the new medical and counseling clinic represented SVSG’s ongoing dedication to its vision of: “Caring for Children, Supporting the Victims of Crime and Uplifting the Vulnerable.”
Last year in November, the Humanitarian Experience Group reached out to SVSG, offering construction assistance as part of their humanitarian services.
It was a request that catered to the need for an on-site medical and counseling centre to provide children’s daily medical check-ups and private, secure counseling sessions.
The children are exposed to the public when they travel to the hospital or the main office in Apia for medical and counseling services. The new building will eliminate this exposure, providing a safer and more convenient location for their care.
The medical and counseling centre is built on Campus right next to the Campus Administration Office and is easily accessible by the children, the medical clinicians, and the counselors.
The Humanitarian Experience Group, known for assisting families, schools, and non-profit organisations across the Pacific, by bringing American teens to Samoa to complete construction projects is committed to completing the new building in the next seven weeks.
SVSG expressed profound gratitude for their support, emphasizing the significant impact this facility will have on the children’s well-being.
SVSG President Siliniu Lina Chang stated, “As a non-profit organisation, we lack the financial resources to construct a new building or centre to cater to the needs of the residents of the Campus of Hope.
“Nevertheless, thanks to the trust and evidence of the services we offer, individuals and organisations assist in realising our efforts. Our endeavours to establish a safe haven for victims of abuse and children are made possible by donations and those who embrace our mission.”
Siliniu also extended heartfelt gratitude to Seth Bradshaw and Claudia Battezzato of the Humanitarian Experience Group for their dedication and belief in SVSG’s cause.
