There were no serious injuries as a pick-up truck lost control and tumbled into a family's compound in Puipaa on Monday afternoon. The incident took place during heavy traffic.

According to eyewitnesses, there were two people inside the vehicle. An elderly woman and the driver who was possibly her grandson. It was a single car crash and no other vehicles were involved.

Before the ambulance and the police got to the scene, residents of Puipaa took the two victims to a nearby family house and treated them there as they waited for the ambulance.

According to the police officers who were present on the scene to investigate the matter, the driver sustained minor injuries while the lady was believed to have sustained more injuries but was not critical.

According to bystanders, the vehicle was coming from Apia and headed towards Malua. It is believed that the driver fell asleep and lost control of the wheel.

"It was fortunate that the driver and her mother seemed fine despite the way the vehicle looked and crashed but we were driving a few vehicles in front of this vehicle when we heard a loud noise behind us," Selafi Vaoagali told this newspaper.

Meanwhile, the ambulance arrived a short while after they were contacted and attended to the wounded woman while the police who arrived a few minutes after the ambulance, questioned the driver.

The vehicle was heading to the Congregational Christian Church Samoa (C.C.C.S.) conference at Malua.

Police have urged members of the public to ensure that they do not get behind the wheel if they are exhausted. The police have said that it would be a busy week as the conference is on and hope that everyone taking part in the meeting drives safely and ensures that no tragedy befalls during this time.
