King Charles III's determination to attend the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in Samoa later this year, despite health concerns related to cancer is being questioned following the official announcement of his cancer diagnosis.

The 75-year-old monarch is resolute in his commitment to strengthening his reign by attending the crucial CHOGM gathering in October, according to sources close to the palace.

Express UK reports that the King's medical team has advised against extensive travel due to his health condition, warning of potential risks associated with long-distance journeys and the strain of attending international events.

According to The International News, senior members of the royal family, including the Prince of Wales, have had to adjust their duties in light of health concerns within the family. The Prince of Wales has scaled back his engagements due to the health of the Princess of Wales, and other working royals are reportedly not considered senior enough to stand in for King Charles at the CHOGM.

The visit to Samoa is seen as crucial for maintaining unity within the Commonwealth, particularly amid calls for a republic in Australia. The King's presence is viewed as instrumental in preserving ties with member countries, including Australia.

Despite medical advice cautioning against strenuous travel, especially given the time difference and associated exhaustion, King Charles remains firm in his decision to undertake the trip.

The 27th CHOGM, scheduled for October 21–25, will be the first under King Charles' leadership and marks a significant moment for the Commonwealth. The event will be hosted by Samoa, marking the first time a small island state will host this high-level meeting.

Buckingham Palace has indicated that future engagements, including the CHOGM, will be subject to medical advice, emphasizing that "nothing is ruled in or out" at this stage.

Meamwhile, Samoa has six more months to prepare until the meeting.
