A survivor's lasting legacy of hope
Magalie Lameloise, a cancer survivor and dedicated volunteer, has spent nearly two years in Samoa, driven by a passion for giving back to the community that embraced her upon arrival.
Battling breast cancer herself and receiving crucial support during her treatment in Australia, Magalie felt compelled to make a difference in the lives of others facing similar challenges.
"For me, volunteering with the Samoa Cancer Society was a way to pay forward the kindness and support I received during my own cancer journey," Magalie shared.
"Early detection saved my life, and I want to emphasize its importance to others. If you notice any changes or concerns, don't hesitate to seek medical advice or reach out to the Samoa Cancer Society for support."
During her time in Samoa, Magalie actively raised awareness for early detection through various engagements and talks. She was instrumental in establishing the "Pink Ladies in Samoa" Facebook support group, providing a safe space for women living with or beyond breast cancer to connect and share experiences.
Staying true to her creative talents, Magalie designed and crafted earrings to raise funds for the Samoa Cancer Society, selling them at Mailelani Gift Shop with all proceeds going towards supporting cancer patients.
Sylvie Salanoa, the shop owner, expressed gratitude for Magalie's initiative, stating that "Magalie's idea is not only beautiful but also helps a good cause. All the money goes to support cancer patients."
Reflecting on her time in Samoa as she prepares to move to Tasmania back with her family, Magalie shared her appreciation for the warmth and kindness of the community here in Samoa.
"I'll always carry Samoa's warmth and kindness with me. I'll miss the friendly faces, the stunning islands, and the vibrant underwater world," she remarked.
Magalie's tireless dedication and support have had a lasting impact on the community. As she bids farewell to Samoa, her legacy of hope and determination continues to inspire others.
