Fuimaono Naoia Fereti Tupua, a beacon of wisdom and a guardian of Samoan culture, has bid farewell to this earthly realm, leaving behind a tapestry of memories woven with love, dedication, and literary brilliance.

He passed away on April 7 at the Moto'otua National Hospital, as confirmed by his grieving wife, Palu Feaisili Tupua.

He was 83 years old. 

Throughout his life, Fuimaono exemplified dedication and hard work, serving his country through various government ministries and private enterprises. 

His illustrious career included roles at the Samoa Tourism Authority, the Office of the Legislative Assembly, and the Ministry of Youth, Sports, and Culture. Notably, he also served as the Samoan language editor at the Samoa Observer.

Even in retirement, Fuimaono's passion for writing and service remained undiminished. 

Upon retiring, he was called back by Savea Sano Malifa, Editor in Chief of the Samoa Observer, to assume the role of Editor for the Samoana paper, a daily publication within the newspaper. His final day working as an editor for the paper was on 1 September 2016.

Fuimaono's literary contributions stand as a testament to his profound understanding of Samoan culture and history. His book, "O le suaga o le va'atele (The findings of the big canoe)," remains a cherished work, offering insights into Samoa's rich heritage and traditions.

Beyond his professional achievements, Fuimaono was a pillar of strength and love for his family. His wife, Palu Feaisili Tupua, fondly remembers him as a devoted husband, caring father, and adoring grandfather. 

His selflessness knew no bounds as he toiled tirelessly to provide for his loved ones, ensuring their happiness and success.

While his departure brings sorrow, Palu finds comfort in knowing that Fuimaono is now free from pain, having fulfilled his life's purpose and witnessed the achievements of his children and grandchildren.

Fuimaono's family held a service at their home in Alafua on Thursday evening, followed by his final service and burial on Saturday next week. 

Hailing from the villages of Salani and Poutasi Falealili, Fuimaono leaves behind a rich legacy of literary prowess and dedicated service.

The Samoa Observer extends heartfelt condolences to the Tupua family during this difficult time, acknowledging Fuimaono's invaluable contributions not only to the newspaper but also to the nation of Samoa through his exemplary service.
