Two mountain climbers from Alaska spent the last five months working in the coldest place on earth, Antarctica and now they find themselves in Samoa.
Annmalise Decker and Ryn Stocking do not have a plan but are on an island adventure to see what it has to offer.
"I found out about the beautiful island on a TV Show called Survivor and thought of visiting one day," said Ms. Decker.
"It's a nice change of scenery because all we saw back in Antarctica was endless ice and glaciers. We are here for 10 days and literally have no plans on what to do.''
Ms. Decker and Ms. Stocking are from Alaska. They explained that they enjoyed the summer climate and the welcoming nature of the Samoan people.
"We came from a place that was negative 20 degrees Fahrenheit and Samoa seems to be the perfect weather we needed, its warmth and the people are so generous and welcoming," Ms. Decker said.
"The water is so blue, and it's the first beautiful thing we noticed when we arrived here, we don't have water like this back at home."
The two adventurers stated that locals were kind enough to help them out by suggesting places and hotspots on the island that they could explore.
"We had people give us names of a few sights to visit, and tomorrow we will be going to church at the Mulivai Cathedral Church for a service" she added.
"We came to the market to see if we could buy some traditional attire for church tomorrow and we also learnt that it is called ie lavalava."
They want to make the most of their 10 days by visiting the To-Sua Ocean Trench, seeing the huge clams in Savaia Lefaga, and, if time permits, the big island of Savaii for a round trip.
When asked if they had tried any local Samoan cuisines during their arrival, Annmalise stated that they hoped to try as many before they left.
"We had some breakfast this morning and it was cocoa rice, a chocolatey cuisine I've never had before. It tasted wonderful, " the pair told the Samoa Observer.
The Alaskans will return home to the United States after Samoa and hope to return for a visit in the future.
