The prosecution has been asked to finalise charges against four individuals charged over allegations of conspiracy while the court denied bail for the two main suspects.
Sam Sua known as Samuelu Simiko and has several other aliases and his wife Marie Sivai Kepi appeared before the District Court on Wednesday seeking bail.
The two other co-defendants in the matter are Lise Marie Schmidt and Member of Parliament for Salega no1, Fepuleai Faimata Sua.
Private prosecutor Leinafo Taimalelagi Strickland asked the Court if the charges could be finalised next week when all four defendants appear with their lawyers.
Strickland said it was prudent and appropriate for all matters to be heard together with the fourth defendant who is Fepuleai and will appear for the first time as the charges are all parts and pieces of the same case.
She added some of the charges already before the court will be substituted and there will be additional charges against the defendants.
Defence lawyer, Lagaaia Fetu Lagaaia acting for Sua, his wife and Schmidt consented to the request from the prosecution.
District Court Judge Talasa Saaga Atoa made it clear she will not grant bail to Sua and his wife until the charges are finalised.
She pointed out there are currently 167 charges before the court against Sua and 34 against his wife but there is no information number on the charges.
Judge Saaga-Atoa added she was yet to receive a copy of the CT scan results for Sua which was a key ground advanced by the defence on his health for bail.
Schmidt on the other hand appeared separately from Sua and his wife.
She has been asked to return to court next Tuesday to appear together with the three other defendants.
In addition, she was released on bail on the condition that she surrenders her travel documents, sign in at the police post and refrain from contacting prosecution witnesses or co-defendants.
Schmidt was charged with accessory after the fact for allegedly harbouring Sua.
Sua and his wife are charged with multiple counts of defamation and misleading police, conspiracy to pervert the course of justice, and conspiracy to commit an offence amongst other charges.
Fepuleai is also facing similar charges of conspiracy to defeat the course of justice and allegations of fabricating evidence.
The M.P. has publicly denied the charges.
