Three in hospital after Aleisa crash

A serious accident involving a four-wheel drive vehicle that allegedly veered out of control, and flipped upside down at a hill in Aleisa on Sunday evening has landed three people including the driver at the Tupua Tamasese Meaole Hospital in Motootua.

Deputy Police Commissioner, Papalii Monalisa Tiai-Keti confirmed with this newspaper in an interview on Monday saying the police are awaiting a medical report from the doctor before they press charges.

She said the three from the crash were recovering well.

"It happened at 4 pm. It was a driver and his two passengers. We are still waiting for the doctor's report then police will know which crime to charge the driver with," she said.

"According to the Faleata Outpost, it's one of those cases where he made a driving mistake and at this point, we are yet to confirm whether he was speeding or not."

Asked how long it will take to wait for the medical report from the doctor, Papalii said she was not certain but she had advised the outpost in Faleata to inform her once the charges have been laid. The driver is a 33-year-old. man.

Meanwhile, the Accident Compensation Corporation - Samoa posted pictures of the accident on social media on Sunday in light of seeking help from the authorities to help the victims of the crash.

"Samoa Police, Prison and Corrections Services and the Land Transport Authority - Samoa, there is a car accident in Aleisa and your help is needed please," A.C.C.S' post reads.

A while after the crash, police officers from the Faleata Outpost responded to the crash which involved a blue Ford Ranger. Police and the towing company helped clear the crash site on Sunday evening.
