Leaders told to serve the nation
The Government officially closed its week of prayer and fasting at the Palisi prayer house on Friday with the Master of Service and Secretary for the Methodist Church of Samoa, Reverend Dr. Eteuati Tuioti urging the leaders to keep God as their focus and work diligently to serve the nation.
The nation's leaders as well as public servants gathered at the prayer house to close the week of fasting and prayer which is an annual event by the Government to seek God’s protection upon Samoa over the next 12 months was officially opened on Sunday. The theme for this year was 'Live Wisely.'
"As a destination for David (in the bible) and also for us says, focus your prayer to God. David remembered his destination and he prayed God, may you let me know when my ending will be so I know how many days I have left," Rev. Tuioti said.
"These are leaders with deep thoughts and prudence. Share with God and tell God everything. It's not a disgrace or curse but God, may you educate me, and tell me how many days I have left so I know how to make the right decision."
The master of service for the opening on Sunday was, Reverend Auatama Esera, Chairman of the Congregational Christian Church Samoa (C.C.C.S.) who urged the nation and its leaders to take fasting seriously and not make it an exercise for show.
Meanwhile, the Head of State, His Highness Tuimalealiifano Vaaleto'a Sualauvi II, Deputy HOS, Le Mamea Ropati, Cabinet Ministers, Leaders of the Council of Churches, members of diplomatic corp, opposition members, and government officials were present at the closing of the prayer and fasting week.
Prime Minister, Fiame Naomi Mataafa who was not present during the opening also did not attend the closing due to health issues.
This year, the annual prayer service marked 33 years since the inception of the annual prayer and fasting service for the nation.
