'Sign for Haylani'

A signature board that was put up by Vodafone Samoa in front of the ACC building earlier this week has attracted many Samoans as well as tourists showing love for Haylani Pearl Kuruppu who is representing Samoa at the Miss Global pageant in Cambodia.

People have been flocking to the signboard to write inspiring messages, just signing their names to show support, and others taking pictures in front of it. When the Samoa Observer visited the site on Tuesday, people had crowded the area.

"Haylani may you go with God in your journey and may you rise and lead for the betterment of the nation," one person signed on the billboard.

"All the best Haylani. God bless and bring that crown home.

"God bless and guide you during the pageant. Let's empower women throughout the globe to appreciate their God-given beauty like you," MeeHwa Amoa wrote.

Vodafone Samoa was thrilled to share the success of their signature campaign at the ACC building on Tuesday and acknowledged the public's support for Haylani.

"The overwhelming support from the public and of all ages, including our dedicated public servants, was truly heartening," Vodafone Samoa posted on social media.

"The whiteboard which will later be a canvas of well-wishes, will be presented to our Haylanni in Cambodia next week. As she embarks on the next stage of her journey in the Miss Global Pageant, this board becomes a powerful symbol of Samoa's solidarity.

"Stay tuned for the new location tomorrow! The final day of this signature campaign for your chance to show your support to our Miss Global Samoa."

Haylani told her major sponsor that the billboard and inspiring messages from the people of her country brought her to tears.

"The signature board made me cry," she said. "Omg! so blessed. Thank you! That's so sweet showing the girls here at the breakfast what my country is doing to support me back home."

Haylani Kuruppu was selected as Miss Samoa Global after a planned local pageant was scrapped and the Government refused to give their backing to use the word Samoa or fly the national flag at the world event.

However, in the weeks to follow, the Government realising the potential to use the international stage to promote Samoa, caved in and gave their support to Vodafone and the former Miss Samoa.

This was also at the time when Haylani had relinquished her crown and was heading to the Pacific Games to represent Samoa in basketball, however, when offered the opportunity to be the nation's ambassador on the world stage, she accepted.

The crowning for Miss Global will be on January 18.
