'Fata' titles for Lima father and son
The man known to the rugby world as 'The Chiropractor' achieved another milestone and this time he took the step with his son to start their duty of honour and service to family and village.
Manu Samoa sevens head coach, Muliagatele Brian Lima and his son, Brian Junior Lima were both bestowed the oratory title of 'Fata' from Afega in honour of their ancestors and family on Saturday.
They were amongst 80 descendants of the Fata bloodline who were bestowed four different chiefly titles. Paramount titles of Tipoai, Leatuafi, Matuaifaleesea, and the oratory title of Fata which the head coach and his son received on Saturday at the Faleulu residence.
In an interview with the Samoa Observer, Fata Brian said being bestowed the title is not only an honour and priviledge for him but also for his son to know his roots going forward.
"It has been a long time since the family last passed down these titles to its' descendants but all glory goes to God for making this day possible for our family and I also thank Letuafi and Matua for the honour and priviledge of giving us these family treasures which they don't just give to anyone, for us to cherish and serve in," he said.
"We're the descendants of the Fata title, especially Fata Pala which the family has been holding on to and it has been ages since we last bestowed these titles.
"Hence we're grateful to the family for the initiative as there are many of us who were bestowed these titles today.
"The significance of this new title for my son on the other hand is for him to know that this is his roots, the Fata bloodline, especially the 'Fata o le Matua o Tuisamau' line."
The head coach for the Manu Samoa sevens also thanked and paid tribute to his late father, Tuliaupupu Fata Pala Lemau for it is through him that they were bestowed the Fata title.
Meanwhile, it has been over two decades since these four titles in the family were last bestowed and it was a great way for the family to start the year.
The blessing of the titles was conducted on Friday by four church ministers serving in different churches within Afega.
For the father and son duo, it is now back to the rugby pitch. The coach and player are gearing up for the next leg of the World Sevens Series.
