Body found at sea in Nofoalii
The Samoa Police, Prison and Correction Services (S.P.P.C.S.) responded to a call regarding a man in his 20s from Nofoalii who is alleged to have drowned and died at sea on Tuesday 26 December.
Police Commissioner, Auapaau Logoitino Filipo confirmed to the Samoa Observer on Tuesday regarding the incident saying this is so far the only serious incident reported to police during the festive season.
"There was a case today reported to police regarding an incident in Nofoalii where a man was found dead in the sea but we're not sure at this stage whether he drowned or what the real cause of his death is whether he went fishing or another reason," he said.
"But I can not comment any further in the meantime because the police officers are still out for that case but what I've been told is that the man is over 20 years old but we can only confirm the real cause of his death when the officers are back from Nofoalii."
Meanwhile, Auapaau also confirmed that majority of the cases being reported to police for assistance since the start of the festive holiday were drunk cases.
"It's been mostly cases of drunkards not being able or know how to handle their alcohol so that's mainly been the cases police have received throughout this festive season," he said.
He said this has been a safe Christmas and they ensured the safety of the people by having most of the officers on duty.
