Four-days-of-Christmas focuses on youths

The Catholic Church of Vaiusu finished their Four-Days-Of-Christmas on Saturday and not only did they await the birthday of Jesus Christ but are also celebrating the achievement of their programme.
This programme started four years ago.
In an interview with the Samoa Observer, Deacon Paulo Mulipola stressed that the four-day Christmas program which started in 2020 was initially to attract the young lives of the youths in the village to be more committed to church than other things such as alcohol.
"Our focus is the youth because they are the future of tomorrow and this is something we look at to push the youth to be more involved in these things, especially during festive seasons such as Christmas rather than spending their time on things like alcohol and drugs and I'm glad to say we've reached that goal looking back to when we started this programme," he said.
"We've had some new faces coming in and be a part of this program and because of the exciting atmosphere found here, they are also joining in on Sundays to church and it's something we look forward to, is to get more new youth members outside of church to come to church and commit their time and lives to these things."
According to Deacon Mulipola, the church is and has always been working closely with village chiefs within the church to convince and influence the youths from each sub-villages within Vaiusu to attend church and participate in their activities such as the four-days-of-Christmas.
Samoa Observer visited the church venue on Saturday where they hosted their four days of Christmas and witnessed a huge crowd turning up.
Deacon Mulipola urged youths across Samoa to take a moment to think about the real purpose of Christmas and refrain from the influences of alcohol and drugs.
"Not just the youths but also adults, they tend to treat Christmas as a day to get drunk and party when it's more special than that, it's the birthday of Jesus Christ our saviour and that's the message we're always trying to tell the youth of Vaiusu through these programmes," he said.
