The Teleā family from the village of Faleula came bearing gifts for the children at the Campus of Hope at the most opportune time.

The Campus of Hope experienced a 12 per cent increase in the number of children in December and there are now 84 children there, the youngest a three-months-old baby.

The Samoa Victim Support Group (SVSG) is the sole provider of temporary residential care for abused women and children in Samoa.

SVSG President Siliniu Lina Chang said it is usually during this time of the year that an increasing number of abused and vulnerable women and children victims of violence, are brought under SVSG’s care.

She said the Telea family becomes a beacon of hope for the children who are survivors of abuse and neglect, providing them with moments of joy and camaraderie.

“The visits by families, organisations and friends such as the Teleā family during the Christmas period, is a testament to a community, sharing the gift of the season with the abused and the most vulnerable,” she said.

The Teleā family operates the Bingo games at Faleula, distinguished by their prominent tents and the enthusiastic participation of locals.

The Teleā family, led by their respected matriarch Solamalemalo Fou, dedicated themselves to making a positive impact in the lives of the abused and vulnerable children at the Campus of Hope. This practice has been a tradition for the family.

Mrs. Fou emphasized the family's decision to utilise part of the profits from the family’s Bingo games to provide direct support to the children at the Campus.

This year, their heartfelt gesture includes a substantial donation of $3000 in cash along with assorted and colorful gifts for the children. An additional $1,000 was put forward for the SVSG President’s Siva Samoa.

"We express our deepest appreciation to the Teleā family for their unwavering kindness and genuine care for the children," said Siliniu.

"Your continuous generosity embodies the true spirit of community support and brings immense joy to the children under our care. Thank you to the family’s matriarch, Solamalemalo Fou for leading your family with grace and humility. ”

According to SVSG, the Teleā family's selfless act of giving reflects their commitment to making a meaningful difference in the lives of vulnerable children.

“As we head into Christmas and New Year, SVSG is reminding our communities that the Helpline number 800-7874, is always available should you need assistance. It is free, and it works 24 hours a day,” said Siliniu.
