Cancer Society elects board members
The Samoa Cancer Society has announced its board members after successfully holding its Annual General Meeting on December 16, 2023, at the Pickled Lam in Motootua.
This was the first AGM held by the SCS since 2021 owing to the pandemic's effects.
In a statement issued by the SCS, it said members approved the President's reports by Lauaki Jason Annandale and the independently audited accounts completed by Leota and Niumata Chartered Accountants for 2021 and 2022.
Tauili'ili Alise Stunnenberg was elected as President while Leituala Dr Ben Matalavea was Vice President. Amanda Lam is the Treasurer, Audrey Brown-Pereira is the Secretary; and new board members are Sose Annandale, Neal Stephen, and Pouli Dr. Keneti Faulalo.
Minister for Health Valasi Luapitofanua Selesele was given the nod to continue as Patron of the Society and Leota and Niumata Chartered Accountants as independent auditors.
"The society will resume its regular governance meeting time in March or April of 2024 with the next annual general meeting. The decision to change the term of board members from three to one year was also approved at the meeting," said the statement.
The Samoa Cancer Society was first established in 1998 and is situated at the National Cancer Resource Centre in the Moto’otua Hospital compound. In 2023 it has a Secretariat of three full-time staff including a Patient Support Officer, the position of which is funded by the Government of Samoa through the Ministry of Health.
