A new stage has been set up between the hills of Le Mafa looking out to the green scenery in the North Coast allowing travelers to enjoy peace and surreal views from the top.

Known as the Le Mafa Pass Lookout the upgrade work on the popular scenic location was officially opened on Thursday in a brief ribbon cutting ceremony hosted by the Samoa Tourism Authority (S.T.A.).

The project was made possible under the S.T.A. Recovery and Resilience Program for upgrade funded by New Zealand aid with the total cost of SAT$94,673.

King Constructions was contracted to carry out the work which includes a stable wooden stage with an existing ramp and tables on the side for visitors to sit.

The S.T.A. Chairperson, Tauiliili Alise Stunnenberg said the lookout is a very popular scenic spot for visitors who drive down to the other end of the island and for cruise ship tours.

On behalf of the Government and S.T.A., Tauiliili thanked the New Zealand Government for their continued support and commitment to the development of the tourism sector through the New Zealand aid program.

She said the lookout stands tall enough and the small sign will continuously remind Samoans of New Zealand's love and commitment in the tourism industry.

Lealiiee Rudy Ott was also acknowledged for his consent and approval to develop the site.

The New Zealand High Commissioner to Samoa, Dr. Trevor Matheson said the tourism product over the coming months has slowly been elevated to improve the experience of all visitors and locals alike.

He urged the S.T.A. and stakeholders to continue to raise awareness on the upgrades to ensure the wider public are better informed and can begin to take advantage of the site over the festive season and beyond.

Dr. Matheson reiterated New Zealand’s support for the tourism sector noting the important role it plays in Samoa’s post COVID economy and providing much needed earning and employment opportunity.

He also wished S.T.A. the best with the remaining sites being worked on as the country works towards hosting the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in 2024.
