Ngaire tops all at Vaivase
Ngaire Lia Toetu from Solosolo and Vaivase-Tai was overwhelmed with joy when she was named the top student for Vaivase Primary School this year.
It was an achievement she was happy to share with her parents, family and her prayer-warriors who were all thrilled to have witnessed such a milestone for the young Ms. Toetu's academic journey.
Her proud father, Tuifa'asisina Toetu Valavala was thankful.
Speaking to the Samoa Observer, he said he was not surprised by what his daughter has accomplished so far.
"She has always been a bright child ever since she was young," Tuifa'asisina said.
"And as a parent, that's what we want for our children; for them to excel in all that they do in life. I've witnessed how hard my daughter worked and studied this year and it has paid off."
He then credited the Lord's guidance and protection upon his daughter. He also thanked his family and friends who have played a role in nurturing his daughter's life ever since she was born.
"You know it really does take a village to raise a child and I am happy and so grateful to everyone who have played a role in helping us raise our children.
"Ngaire is the eldest and she has set a great example for her younger siblings. I'm so proud of her."
As for the reserved teen, she was both speechless and emotional when she was queried about how she felt after the school's prize giving ceremony on Tuesday.
However, like her father, she immediately dedicated her achievement to God.
"I am humbled and grateful," Ms. Toetu said.
"I thank God for his love and blessings upon me, especially for his wisdom bestowed upon me. It was quite a challenging year as I tried my best to balance everything and my studies, but I would not have made it this far if it weren't for him."
She then made special mention to her spiritual parents in Solosolo for pushing and encouraging her to strive for the best.
"Reverend Sepi and Meafou Gafa really inspired me to believe in myself and to study hard and I thank them for believing in me.
"I know it's not easy, but everything will pay off at the end and today, I am just happy and thankful."
The school topper who also secured a spot in Samoa College next year says she aspires to be a doctor.
"I've always taken care of my family when they're sick, especially my younger siblings so I want to pursue that dream and be able to help those who are in need.
"I know being a doctor is about service and I want to be of service to my family and my country."
