Samoa joins American Samoa celebrations
The Deputy Prime Minister of Samoa and the Deputy Speaker of the Samoa's Legislative Assembly attended the 75th anniversary or Diamond Jubilee celebrations of the Legislature of American Samoa on Friday.
Tuala Iosefo Ponifasio and Auapa'au Mulipola Aloitafua joined the territory on behalf of the Government of Samoa as both the Prime Minister and Speaker of the House are on duty travel.
The celebration was held on Friday and was attended by past and current leaders of the American Samoa government as well as other distinguished guests.
The President of the American Samoa Senate, Tuaolo Manaia Fruean during his address challenged women in the territory to take up leadership roles within the House of Representatives.
He expressed how proud he was of Congresswoman Uifa'atali Amata Coleman Radewagen who is the current delegate for the United States House of Representatives from American Samoa.
Senate President Tuaolo said he wants to see more women inside the American Samoa Fono and for them to step up and lead the country.
"That's the challenge for our women to mark this milestone in commemoration of the Diamond Jubilee," Tuaolo said.
"If men can do it, women can do it too. Be a woman of substance as we need to see more women step up and lead the country."
It was also an opportunity for them to acknowledge the leaders who have passed on and remember their dedication and sacrifices.
While the Deputy Prime Minister was in American Samoa for the special commemoration, the Minister of Health, Valasi Tafito Selesele was appointed as the Acting Prime Minister in the absence of both the P.M. and Deputy P.M.
Prime Minister Fiame Naomi Mata'afa has been away since last weekend while the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly, Papali'i Li'o Ta'eu-Masipau traveled to China for a meeting.
